If you are pushed for time and wish to experience the best possible short cycling tour in Provence, this tour is made for you.

It takes place between the foot of Mont Ventoux, a mecca for cyclists and the unmatched riding terrain of Luberon with its postcard-perfect landscapes and beautiful villages.

In between, you will ride on quiet roads through vineyards, along gorges, through lavender fields, and farmlands…A festival for the eyes as you’ll start with the “Giant of Provence” in the background and end in the ochre-colored village of Roussillon.

Although it requires a good fitness level, note that the toughest section—the climb to Mont-Ventoux—is optional. If you still find the ride too challenging, remember that e-bikes can be provided, making this trip an ideal choice for groups made up of riders of different fitness levels.

Note that for your group of 4 (friends, families, fellow club members), we can tweak this tour to better accommodate your interests and time constraints.

Trip begins in Bedoin or Mazan (transfer from Avignon included). Trip ends with transfer to Avignon.

Self-guided tour available April through October 2021. Starts any day of the week except Sunday.

Daily cycling distance ranges from 42 to 80 km with many alternate paths and challenge options.

Accommodation in 2- and 3-star properties or 4- and 5-star properties.

Starting at 730 euros per person sharing a double room.

Itinerary

If you arrive by train to Avignon, we’ll meet you at the TGV train station in Avignon and transfer you to Mazan where your hotel is located. If you do not bring your own bike, outfitting will take place right before your check-in. Hopefully, your arrival time will be early enough to be able to do the loop we’ve prepared for you. It will take you around the fabulous Dentelles de Montmirail and through the wine-making villages of Vacqueryas, Gigondas, and Séguret. Another highlight is Vaison-la-Romaine, one of Europe’s largest archaeological sites. Before returning to Mazan you’ll have the option to ride up to the tiny village of Suzette (1,080 meters/3,540 ft), a modest ascent that, if you so choose, will add 20 kilometers (12 miles) to the day’s ride.

If you decide to do so, today, you’ll climb Mont Ventoux, the highest point in Provence. When included in the tour route, the 1,910 m (5,700 ft) climb is often one of the most epic moments of the Tour. The views from the top are certainly sensational! The descent from Mont Ventoux takes you past the plateaus of lavender fields stretching far and wide. Dinner and overnight in Sault.

Our alternate route will take riders to Sault via the breathtaking Gorges de la Nesque. The route is no less spectacular.

Three of the most beautiful villages of France are on your route today. The first one, Venasque, is perched high above a valley, offering impressive views. You will soon after reach the Luberon Regional Park where the other two villages, Gordes and Roussillon, are situated. Depending on the hotel option you selected, you’ll be stayin in ochre-colored Roussillon (Option A) or in nearby Gargas (Option A+)

After breakfast, our team will transport you to the walled city of Avignon. From there, the rest of France is only a train ride away.
